In 2004 the voters in the school district passed a class B-Bond of $24,725,000.00 to provide funding to build, remodel and upgrade district cilities. A list of priorities was provided at the time of the election. Listed below is that list and an update on each project.
1. New School # 17 -The district used part of the bond funds for #17 (Sunset Vista). The State only provided funding to build this school for 500 students. The District funded the cost to complete this new site by building the remaining classroom space for an additional 500 students. The school was completed in December of 2005 and students first day was on January 9, 2006. Project complete.
2. Construction of new administration buildings at American, Horizon and Bicentennial North Schools - New school office buildings were built and opened at American and Horizon in the fall of 2005; Bicentennial North opened in January 2006. The old office spaces have been converted into classroom space. Project complete.
3. Student Support Center Phase I & Phase II - The support center added 7 acres to its complex, which includes a 10,000 square foot warehouse addition, a 10,000 square foot building for the maintenance trades and grounds staff, a new fuel island with the latest software for electronic fuel tacking and new parking for school buses and the support fleet. We were granted the certificate of occupancy in March of 2006. Project complete.
4. Security Fencing - School fencing was replaced, added, modified at 9 school sites. This has improved security for the students and facilities. Project complete.
5. Remodel Burton Restrooms - The student restrooms located in the main building have been completely renovated bringing them up to the new standards. Project completed.
6. Air Conditioning for Gymnasiums - New air conditioning units have been installed in the gym and locker rooms at Landmark and Challenger Middle Schools. These units replaced the old evaporative coolers. Project complete.
7. District Parking - A new parking lot was built at the district office. Sixty (60) new spaces were added. The Landmark baseball field was relocated with new lighting, backstop and fencing. Project complete.
8. Energy Management System Phase I - The district is in the process of installing an energy management system that will control the heating and air conditioning at ten sites. The system that we chose has the capability to control security systems, lighting, monitoring of kitchen freezer and coolers amongst various other things. We are projected to see significant utility savings by using a programmable smart system such as the one being installed. Construction period for instillation at the ten sites is scheduled to be complete in May of 2009.
