Landmark School Middle School Career Academies for the 2016-2017 school year began on Wednesday, August 17.
First Day Activities
Glendale Fire Pal Brian Stewart and Dr. Janet Boberg led the Health Care students through First Aid Activities. They shared scenarios and how to appropriately respond and assist. Students will continue to practice these First Aid skills next week.
The Culinary Arts student worked with guests from the University of Arizona. One segment was on nutrition and understanding how much fat is in meals ordered in restaurants. The second part of the class focused on gardening and what types of plants grow in Arizona in the Fall. We are looking forward to another plentiful school garden.
An introduction to the Glendale Police Force was provided by Officer Seidel from the Glendale P.D. The Public Safety class learned about the police academy and foundations of laws.
The Engineering and Construction Group began today by cleaning up the garden to prepare it for the culinary class. The students showed great pride in the garden beds, which was their construction project from last year. The second portion of the class was spent designing a new softball field for their new project.
The Computer Science group were introduced to Khan Academy, which they will be using to learn foundational coding skills, but also spent time with the Dash and Dot today.
