Our History
William C. Jack Elementary opened its doors in the fall of 1959. It originally began as one campus, Mensendick-Jack, with 32 teachers, 3 teacher aides and 16 classified personnel serving 634 students.
In 1979 the school was restructured to a K-6 school with a student population of 1600. At that time there was one principal, two assistant principals, and one student advisor.
In 1991 the campus was restructured again into two separate campuses. Mensendick became a 4-6 campus while Jack became a K-3 school.
In 1995-96 the school was remodeled. The classrooms at this point gained air conditioning and the library became state of the art.
William C. Jack served on the Board of Trustees of Glendale Grammar School for 9 years and served on the Chamber of Commerce Board. He was twice President of the Chamber of Commerce. Some of his many interests were Rotary Club, Boy Scouts, Community Chest, and the Glendale Chapter of the American Cancer Committee. He lived from 1913-1961. He was a leader of the community, and it was an honor for Unit 5 to be named after William C. Jack.
