• Reopening Schools, Next Week, Hot Spots

    Posted by Amy Troutt on 10/2/2020

    GA Community,

    We are SO excited that we currently have AZ Health Metrics that support us reopening schools on Oct. 19.  We are hopeful that our community health metrics continue to support us opening in a hybrid model (half the student population on campus at a time).  To prepare for that possible opening, we need your help!

    Return to In-Person Learning Information and Survey

    GESD is committed to the safety of our students and staff.  At this time, our benchmarks are trending towards a hybrid model (A/B Schedule). If data remains favorable, we project, we will be able to open our schools on October 19th. As we begin to solidify our plans for a possible reopening with the hybrid-learning model, we need more feedback from our parents/guardians. Your input will help us know how many students we can expect to return to our schools beginning on October 19th.
    We have:
    ● Met Maricopa County’s health and safety benchmarks for a hybrid model;
    ● Developed a comprehensive mitigation plan, which includes updated health and safety protocols;
    ● Secured professionals in the cleaning and sanitization/disinfectant supplies for the health and safety of students and staff;
    ● Invested significantly in sanitizing/disinfectant supplies and PPE for the health and safety of students and staff;
    ● Begun mandatory health and safety training for staff;
    ● Developed daily social/emotional classroom lessons;
    ● Provided more detailed answers to frequently asked questions;
    ● Set a specific date to reopen our schools for our hybrid learning model (October 19); and
    ● Developed the following hybrid model:
    o A/B Schedule
    o Monday and Thursday by last name of A-L
    o Tuesday and Friday by last name of M-Z
    o 5-hour school days on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays to allow for less exposure
    o Start times follow the traditional calendar, ending times will be modified (7:45-12:45)
    o Independent Distance Learning Wednesdays (7:45-11:45)
    Please click the link below to access the survey.

    Oct. 5-9 Student Schedules

    Teachers will be setting up their classrooms to prepare for in-person instruction next week.  Thus, student schedules may be impacted by the cancellation of some of the live Google Meets opportunities with teachers.  PreK-3/Related Arts students may have canceled live instruction on M/W/F and 4-8/Special Education may have canceled live instruction on T/Th/F.  All students will continue to have learning opportunities for all days through learning packets and Google Classroom work from teachers.  Teachers will communicate with parents/students through Google Classroom if they have variations in their schedules planned for next week due to getting our school ready!  Thank you for your flexibility.

    Hot Spots Available

    We continue to have hot spots for internet connection available for check out.  If your family does not have internet connection or is experiencing challenges, please contact your child's teacher to arrange pick-up of a hot spot. During hybrid learning, students will be expected to continue engaging online at home using a district-issued Chromebook for learning and assessment.

    Thank you for choosing Glendale American. We are incredibly proud to serve you and your child(ren).  Please look for further communication as we get closer to reopening on procedures for health and safety as we reopen schools.
