About DLIP

GESD’s Dual Language Immersion Program (DLIP) is a free enrichment program designed for high academic achievement in all content areas while developing high levels of proficiency in both English and Spanish.

The DLIP provides students with an opportunity to develop high levels of proficiency in a second language; gain awareness and appreciation for diverse cultures, and acquire multitasking abilities while meeting grade-level academic standards.

GESD's DLIP implements a 50/50 instructional model. Students spend 50 percent of their time immersed in English and 50 percent of their time immersed in Spanish. The instruction is provided by two teachers without translation. One teacher delivers instruction in English and the other teacher in Spanish. Literacy and academic content are taught daily in English and Spanish. Students also participate in Art, Music, P.E. and Media Literacy.

Interested parents must provide the following materials to register your child in GESD’s DLIP Kindergarten program:

  • Child must be 5-years-old on or before August 31, 2021
  • Parent/Legal Guardian Photo ID
  • Child’s original birth certificate (or original baptismal record, refugee card, passport)
  • Child’s Immunization Record
  • Proof of Residence (examples include: lease/rental agreement, escrow/mortgage document, utility bill listing name/address of parent/guardian)
