  • Spelling Bee

Posted by Lance Sinclair on 11/20/2020

    "Happy Friday, Smith Families!

We have a lot to be thankful for as we head into Thanksgiving week next week.  We have had a smooth transition back to virtual learning, and we thank you for making sure your students are attending school virtually every day.  We are also thankful for our hardworking teachers and staff, making this a positive experience for students and families.  Remember that next week, we have online classes on Monday and Tuesday, from 8:15 am-1:15 pm, but there is no school Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday as we will be on Thanksgiving Break.  Enjoy that time with your families, and our staff will be doing the same.

We have exciting news!  The Smith Virtual Spelling Bee will take place the week of December 1st.  Parents may register any Smith student, kindergarten through 8th grade, until November 30th at https://online-test.spellingbee.com.  See the flyer on Class Dojo and our school Facebook page for more details.  We will also attach the flyer to our autodialer email.

Progress Reports will be sent home by your child's teachers via email and Class Dojo on Monday and Tuesday next week.  This will be a good opportunity for you to see how your students are progressing toward their grade level goals prior to Benchmark Assessments, which happen in early December.  You play an important role in your student's investment in their grades and performance.  Please discuss your child's progress report with them and reach out to your child's teacher with any questions.  If you are not connected to Class Dojo or have not provided your email address to your child's teacher, please call the office to provide an email address during business hours, 7:45 am-4:00 pm, and remember the office will be closed on Wednesday through Friday for Thanksgiving Break.

We look forward to seeing our students online Monday and Tuesday and hope you all enjoy your Thanksgiving Break after that."

  • Virtual Learning Monday November 16th

Posted by Lance Sinclair on 11/13/2020

    Hello Families,

Beginning Monday, November 16, 2020, we will return to full-time virtual learning. The campus will not be open for students to come in person. We hope that soon the health metrics will improve, and we will be able to return to school in person; for now, it is safest for everyone to resume virtual learning. Thank you for your support in this transition. Please be sure we have your contact information correct with phone numbers and email addresses so that you can receive important updates from us. If you need to update your contact information, contact our front office from 7:45 am through 4:00 pm on Monday through Friday.

For our virtual learning schedule, students need to be logged on at 8:15 am for the start of the day. Attendance will be taken throughout the day, so it is important to remain logged in until dismissal at 1:15 pm. Wednesdays will continue to be early release days with dismissal at 12:15 pm. The day will include a few short breaks that are about five minutes each, as well as a 30-minute lunch break. The rest of the time will be spent interacting with the teachers and Related Arts teachers. Related Arts includes technology, art, P.E., band, and music classes. For instructions on accessing Related Arts during the day, see the school website, Facebook page, and class dojo. The instructions are also linked below.

Meals, including breakfast and lunch, will continue to be provided curbside for our virtual students between the hours of 10:30 am and noon. In addition, we will revert to bus stop meal routes to meet the needs of our families.

If your family needs support with an internet connection, we have internet hot spots available for check out through the front office. These are on a first-come-first-served basis and must be returned at the end of the school year.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask your child's teacher, as he or she is the best person to help you and your student with this transition.

    Thank you for your support!
