    About our program

The STEAM Academy at Glenn F. Burton seeks to provide an enriching learning environment where students are immersed in an inquiry-based, authentic STEAM curriculum that challenges their 21st-century critical thinking and problem-solving skills. We provide each student of the STEAM Academy with interdisciplinary opportunities in science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics. With the support of our diverse community, and the vision of our passionate faculty, we at Glenn F. Burton will foster a safe and secure atmosphere that embraces curiosity, ingenuity, responsibility, and perseverance.

The integration of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) for grades K-8 at Glenn F. Burton shall focus on instruction that drives innovation. At Glenn F. Burton, we believe that it is innovation that is the difference between simply using technology and the arts, and taking it beyond classroom instruction or design to bring ideas to life. This not only encourages our students to think more abstractly about a challenge or inquiry, we believe it also fosters student engagement as the students see the relevance of what they are being taught and its broader applications in the world around them. Through the STEAM approach to learning, our students are taught the value of taking thoughtful risks, how to engage in hands-on learning, and the importance of persistence in problem-solving. Our Burton Cougars do this by embracing collaboration, and by working through the creative process.

As students progress through their experience in the STEAM Academy at Glenn F. Burton, our 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students will be able to apply their curiosity and interests more broadly within the STEAM spectrum by melding their classroom instruction with diverse STEAM Exploratories and electives in the related arts. Our STEAM Academy provides amazing opportunities for students to develop skills such as coding, electronic music, and digital photography, as well as many others. Our students will also have the opportunity to develop their skills with high-interest after school programs such as exploring Virtual Realty, Honors Algebra and Geometry, Robotics, Lego League, Choir, Dance, and Art. Upper middle school students shall also have the opportunity to participate in the Future Cities Competition at ASU. The Future Cities Competition is an engineering competition to help students design cities of the future!
