    Hi Discovery Families!

Please review a few upcoming dates & reminders:

Start With Hello Week - 8/30-9/3

Discovery School will be taking part in Start With Hello Week this week.  We will be raising awareness and teaching students how to identify and help others who are showing signs of social isolation. It’s a simple act of kindness that involves students to be mindful of others. When they see a student alone, they reach out to help by starting with saying hello.

Join us by participating in our Spirit Days this week:

    • Tuesday: “Be an Upstander”......Be the hero, say hello to someone who you see is alone! Wear your favorite superhero shirt!
    • Wednesday: “Empathy”….Put yourself in someone else’s shoes. Wear mismatched socks and/or shoes. What might it feel like to walk a mile in someone else's shoes? Think before you act!
    • Thursday: “Kindness, Courage & Confidence”......Just like the sun, shine bright with kindness, courage and confidence….wear your favorite cool pair of sunglasses.
    • Friday: “Community”......Discovery is a special School Community…..wear your school shirt or colors teal, black, purple.

    No School Friday, 9/3 & Monday, 9/6

Teachers will be participating in full day professional development on Friday, September 3rd.  There will be no school for students.

There is no school on Monday, September 6th for the Labor Day holiday.

  • Welcome Back Scorpions! A Few Reminders

Posted by Sarah Saints on 3/23/2021

    Hi Everyone,

We want to thank you all for a great first day of In-Person learning!  It was wonderful having our students back on campus today, as we have missed being together very much!

Please help us keep our students, staff and families safe by following the procedures for student drop-off and pick-up.  We have created procedures for students to enter and exit campus safely while maintaining social distancing.  When we have a large number of parents park their vehicle and walk to the gate, it creates congestion and makes it difficult for students to follow the procedures we have in place.  Please remain in your vehicle during this time for the safety of everyone.  If you must walk, please wait on a teal dot outside the gate for your child(ren), as this is the procedure they follow on campus.

Attached are the documents that have been sent out regarding Arrival and Dismissal.  If you have not reviewed these, please do so before tomorrow so we can maximize our safety procedures.

Thank you!  We look forward to another wonderful day today!

  • Return to In-Person Learning March 22, 2021

Posted by Sarah Saints on 3/11/2021

    Dear Discovery Families,

As you know, Governor Ducey issued an Executive Order last week requiring schools to resume In-Person learning and also provide virtual instruction options for families of students who are at risk for severe illness if exposed to COVID-19, or who live with people at increased risk.

Our Discovery Team is excited and eager to welcome our students back to school for in-person learning after Spring Break on Monday, March 22, 2021!

We have been working hard to prepare our classrooms and campus for the safe return of our students and staff.   Please review Discovery’s Return to School Campus Setup  for detailed information on some of the safety protocols that will be implemented for students’ return.  Additional details on the Healthy Return Back to School Plan can be found on our GESD website.

All students enrolled in In-Person Learning (Distance Learning while we were virtual) will attend school in-person five days a week.  We will be back to our full-day instructional schedule.

             Discovery school hours:

                      Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 7:45am-2:45pm

                      Wednesday:  7:45am-11:45am

For students that are not returning to In-Person and will remain virtual, 100% of their learning will be asynchronous, meaning they will be completing all of their work independently, in their Google Classroom.  Teachers will provide written feedback to students each week.

In order to be prepared for the return of our students, we need to get an accurate idea of which students will be returning In-Person and which students will remain virtual.  Teachers are asking parents to provide this information during their Parent-Teacher Conferences this week.  If you have not yet had your conference, or your conference is scheduled after Spring Break, please complete the Return to In-Person Learning Survey so that we can be as prepared as possible for March 22nd.  Find the survey here:  https://forms.gle/esM1vZ6ggk2CFKJy5

Thank you for your continued support!
