Principals Message

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students of Desert Spirit Elementary,

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year!  As your principal, it is my pleasure to work with our dedicated staff and community to provide a positive educational experience for our students.  The theme for our Desert Spirit community is “Be Bold, Be Brave, Be Kind”. The definition of kindness is the quality of being gentle, caring and helpful and these are the qualities are what we want to instill in our students as well as a quality education.

This year we are very excited to begin a new partnership with Verizon and Digital Promise and become a VILS school.  This partnership provides all Desert Spirit students and staff in 4th to 8th grade with an iPad to be used for blended learning.  We were also able to hire a VISL coach, Ms. Womack, and she will work to provide professional development and classes for students.

The staff at Desert Spirit is passionate about learning; collaboratively with one other and dedicated towards continuous improved student achievement. We are life-long learners who are firmly committed to a Professional Learning Community that is focused on using student achievement data in order to improve individual student achievement. As a staff, we will continue to motivate our diverse population to achieve in both academics and in their social skills in order to meet the challenges of both today and tomorrow! Finally, our Desert Spirit staff will always model Respect, Responsibility and Readiness in order to show a good example for our student learners.

This is a different year for our families, staff and students, the year of COVID 19.  We wish nothing more than to have students back in the classroom and we hope to see them soon.  All students will have a device (iPad or chromebook) for online learning until we are back in school.  Teachers will be meeting with students daily, taking attendance, giving feedback and assigning grades.  This year students will have a daily 20 min Social Emotioinal Learning class built into their schedule, which is new to them.

I wish you all a wonderful school year.  If I can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me and know my door is always open.  I can be reached at 623-237-5603.
