• Dual Language Immersion Program at William C. Jack

Interested parents can register for kindergarten and first grade-aged children into the DLIP now at William C. Jack. Should there be an excess of interest, a lottery will be held to determine which students will enter the program. The program will accept Kindergarten and first-grade students residing within GESD boundaries as well as students residing outside-district boundaries.

GESD’s Dual Language Immersion Program is a free enrichment program designed for high academic achievement in all content areas while developing high levels of proficiency in both English and Spanish. The Dual Language Immersion program will start in kindergarten for the 2023-2024 school year and will add an additional grade each year.

The goals of the Dual Language Immersion Program are to provide students with an opportunity to develop high levels of proficiency in a second language; gain awareness and appreciation for diverse cultures; and acquire multitasking abilities, higher-order thinking, and problem-solving skills while meeting grade-level academic standards.

The K-8 Glendale Elementary School District Dual Language Immersion Program will implement a 50/50 instructional model. The students will spend 50 percent of their time immersed in English and 50 percent of their time immersed in Spanish. The instruction will be provided by two teachers without translation. One teacher will deliver the instruction in English and the other teacher in Spanish. Literacy and academic content will be taught daily in English and Spanish. Students will also participate in the following special area classes: Art, Music, P.E. and Media Literacy.

The K-8 Glendale Elementary School District Dual Language Immersion Program will use the Arizona State Standards and the Arizona World and the Native Language Standards for grade-level content and language instruction.

Dual Language Immersion students will also participate in District and State assessments. Additionally, students enrolled in the Dual Language Immersion program will participate in the Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages (AAPPL) to measure students’ language proficiency levels in Spanish.
