• Principal’s Message

    Good Evening,

This is Sarah Balder your Horizon Principal welcoming all our students back to another year of learning.  We know this year will look very different than any other year….and I have lots of news to tell you:

A gentle reminder, we are offering TWO learning pathways at this time in GESD – Glendale Online Learning and Distance Learning/In-Person.   While learning begins on Monday, August 10, the school building is not open to students until after labor day at this time.

Your teachers have been preparing this last week and getting their instruction up and running for all students – GEO or Distance/In-Person – through digital means. All Horizon teachers who are teaching Distance/In-Person learning made contact by phone or email to all their families last Thursday or Friday.  If you don’t know your child’s teacher at this time, please call the Horizon office 237- 4010 after 7:30 am tomorrow and we will help you get your child’s teacher’s name to you.  GEO teachers are still getting rosters and are in the process of contacting their students’ families. Please call 237-6301 if you don’t know your GEO teacher.

For students who have NO connectivity or computer device we are handing out week-long work packets and reading/math workbooks by grade.  Please come Monday, to Horizon’s parking lot between 9 – 11 am to get those items.  Meal distribution will be taking place as well from 10:30 – NOON Monday – Friday for Horizon students only – have your child’s name ready if you don’t have their school ID from last year.

Now some news about Band….  Intermediate and Advanced Band students will receive instruction online through Canvas for the first 9 weeks.  This course will be the same for students who are currently using Horizon’s distance learning opportunities, as well as those students enrolled in the GEO program.  By the end of next week, students may login to the computer and see their band course for the Canvas application.  All students who are interested in joining Band as a beginning student will have that opportunity after we return to in-person learning.  Ms. Grant is looking forward to seeing all our Band Students Soon!

Algebra and Geometry parents… both advanced math classes are offered in conjunction with Glendale Union High School District.  If you have a student in Algebra or Geometry, Horizon’s Ms. Washburn and Ms. Winch will reach out to you next week with information about class this year.  These specific classes will start on August 28.  Students will participate in their scheduled math class until then.

All of us at Horizon thank you for all your patience and flexibility as we work through this new way of instructing.  Together we can do this!

Stay safe and healthy and here’s to another great year of learning!
